It has enough filtration capacity to process the tank water several times per hour, achieving optimal cleaning. The filter deals with the three main types of filtration: mechanical, biological and chemical.
The mechanical filtration aspect removes all kinds of solid waste from the water. Biological filtration helps maintain a healthy bacteria population to remove ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Chemical filtration is excellent at removing any toxins, odors, and discoloration from the water.
The filter included in the Fluval Chi is specially designed to prevent water bypass. In other words, every drop of water comes into contact with all 3 filtration mechanisms for great efficiency.
Now what is really cool and unique about the Fluval Chi fish tank filtration system is that it pulls the water out of the bottom of the tank and filters it in an upward motion. It exits out the top of the tank through the stone basket, creating a serene and calming waterfall effect.

Another cool feature of the Fluval Chi Aquarium is the stone basket at the top of the tank. We’ve already talked about how the water flows out of it to create a waterfall effect.
However, what we did not mention is that you can replace the stones with whatever you want, rocks or even some kind of decoration. It may not have a lot of functionality, but it certainly provides an attractive look.
At the same time, the inside of the tank has a plant basket. This plant basket is removable so you can easily take care of the plant when the time comes. Simply lift the basket out of the tank to perform plant maintenance.
You can also change the plant that is included and replace it with a plant of your choice. It’s a cool feature that allows you to add a fake or potted plant with minimal effort.
Lightning
The Fluval Chi fish tank comes with a full LED lighting system, something virtually every aquarium needs to have.
This particular aquarium comes with a 12-LED submersible lighting system. The lights are encased in a waterproof housing to ensure no water damage.
Having submerged lights is a neat feature that not many aquariums have. It creates a really cool look on its own, helps plants grow, and helps light up the tank.
There is also a second set of upward facing lights directed at the water coming out of the pebble basket filtration system at the top of the tank. This creates a very neat dual lighting effect, illuminating the entire Fluval Chi and the space around it.
